Actor Jeremy Piven Invites DePauw Students to "Step Up and Effect Change"
April 3, 2008
April 3, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - "I'm really kind of amazed and proud," of the way college students are engaged in this year's presidential election, actor Jeremy Piven told an audience at DePauw University this afternoon. The Emmy Award-winning star of HBO's Entourage came to campus to lead a rally for Democrat Barack Obama, which took place in Meharry Hall of historic East College. Piven has been visiting Indiana college campuses over the past few days, encouraging young people to register to vote in the state's May 6 primary. (top photo: Greencastle's Banner-Graphic)
"We can all step up and effect change," Piven told the DePauw crowd. "I'm just an actor -- I'm not telling you what to think, I could never do that, but I am telling you just to think and take action, which I think you guys are going to do, which will make us all proud."
Piven, who has also appeared in movies such as Old School and Black Hawk Down, declared, "we need someone to get in there and mix things up a bit, and Barack is our man for the job." The actor also spoke to criticisms that Senator Obama lacks the experience of Hillary Rodham Clinton. "He's going to be speaking the truth as he knows it, because he's been in the trenches for so long," Piven said. "I'll tell you who has the most experience in this administration, [Donald] Rumsfeld and [Dick] Cheney -- rummy and chainsaw. Those guys have a lot of experience, but I don't quite know what experience will get you without the kind of judgment that Barack Obama has."
Summaries of Jeremy Piven's DePauw visit appear in The DePauw and Greencastle's Banner-Graphic.
