Prof. Stanley Irwin in Critical Condition Following Auto Accident

May 30, 2008

May 30, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - Stanley R. Irwin, a member of the DePauw University School of Music faculty since 1975, is in critical condition at Indianapolis' Methodist Hospital after a Wednesday auto accident in Greenwood, Indiana.

"Stan Irwin is in the University community's thoughts and prayers," says DePauw President Robert G. Bottoms. "He has many, many friends around the world who know and respect him for his teaching and performing, and we are all monitoring the situation and remain hopeful he will pull through."

An Indianapolis Star story this afternoon updates Irwin's condition, and notes that he is "a renowned bass-baritone" who "has performed with the Indianapolis Symphony and with symphonies around the world. He's also performed at the White House, Carnegie Hall and the Vatican. He won the World Wide Voice Competition in New York in 1987."

In 2003, Professor Irwin -- who teaches voice at DePauw -- released a compact disc of Cole Porter standards, Night & Day. Details and audio clips can be found in this previous story.
