Dan Quayle '69 in Lake Tahoe for His 10th Celebrity Golf Championship

Quayle-Dan.jpgJuly 11, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - "It is intense," says Dan Quayle of the competition at this weekend's American Century Celebrity Golf Championship at Lake Tahoe. The former U.S. vice president and 1969 graduate of DePauw University will square off against other celebrity opponents, including Michael Jordan, Tony Romo and Digger Phelps. Quayle tells Associated Press, "If you think this is a walk in the park, these guys are serious. Even Digger is grinding away every single moment."

The article notes that Quayle, who is making his tenth appearance in the annual tournament, is given 60-1 odds of winning the three-day event. More than 70 celebrities, including many past and present sports stars, make up the field. Since its inception in 1990, the 54-hole celebrity golf tournament has raised over $3 million for Golf Ball on Tee.jpga variety of charities. The 2008 event will be televised by ESPN2 and NBC.

A member of DePauw's Athletic Hall of Fame, Dan Quayle served in both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate before being selected as George H.W. Bush's running mate.
