Eighteenth President, Robert G. Bottoms, to be Inaugurated October 17

July 21, 1986, Greencastle, Ind. - Robert G. Bottoms will be formally inaugurated as the eighteenth president of DePauw University on Friday, October 17, at 10:30 a.m. The special convocation will take place in Kresge Auditorium of DePauw's Performing Arts Center.
Dr. Bottoms took office July 1, succeeding Richard F. Rosser, who had led DePauw since 1977 and will serve as chancellor during the upcoming academic year.
At the October ceremony, Robert R. Frederick '48, president of RCA, will be installed as the new chairman of the University's Board of Trustees.
A keynote address will be delivered by Alexander Heard, chancellor emeritus and professor of political science at Vanderbilt University. Heard is completing a major stury of the United States presidential selection process, funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. A former adviser to presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon, Heard serves as chairman of the Ford Foundation, the world's largest philanthropic organization.
Bottoms came to DePauw in 1978 as vice president for university relations, and became executive vice president in 1983. He has directed fundraising, alumni relations and public relations for DePauw and heads the University Priorities Committee.
Previously, Dr. Bottoms served as assistant dean, assistant professor of church and ministry, and development officer at the Vanderbilt University Divinity School, and was chaplain at Birmingham Southern College. A 1966 graduate of Birmingham Southern, Bottoms holds the B.D. from Emory University and the D.Min. from Vanderbilt.
