His opponent, as the News-Sentinel reports, is the defending men's singles champion, Derek Carpenter, who also happens to be Schouweiler's best friend.

"In fact, Carpenter is living at Schouweiler's house, and they've played two or three times a week all summer and traveled to three summer college tournaments together," writes Blake Sebring. "They are also doubles partners. They'd really rather not play each other tonight."

"You can't go into it having a game plan already," Schouweiler tells the newspaper, which notes that he is a member of DePauw's men's tennis team. "You have to see what's working. He obviously doesn't have a weakness, so it's all on whatever shot isn't going so well that day. This summer it's all been whoever played worse that day."
