Lisa Belcher Hamilton '80 Publishes Prayers to the God of My Life
June 11, 2003
June 11, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - Prayers to the God of My Life: Psalms for Morning and Evening, authored by 1980 DePauw University graduate Lisa Belcher Hamilton, is arriving in bookstores. Hamilton is an Episcopal priest who worked in the media for PBS' Mister Rogers Neighborhood and as an associate producer in the religion unit of CBS News in New York.
A synopsis from publisher Morehouse states, "The Psalms have long been a staple in the devotional life of religious people. Composed thousands of years ago, they bring every emotion known to humankind -- from anger to adoration -- into the presence of God. In many monastic traditions all 150 Psalms are prayed each week. But those who live outside the cloister, even if they love the Psalms, would find such a schedule difficult to maintain. In Prayers to the God of My Life, Lisa Hamilton [pictured at right] provides small portions for daily reading each morning and evening for 365 days of the year. Matched both to nature's seasonal cycle of the year and the church's liturgical calendar, these Psalm fragments invite us to focus on all aspects of our relationship with God: praise, trust, fearfulness, pain, confession, thanksgiving, longing, the need for guidance, and more. A question worthy of reflection or a suggested action accompanies each selection."
"I am sorry to have finished this lovely book -- I'd like it to go on and on," states Barbara Cawthorne Crafton, author of The Sewing Room. "Thanks to Lisa Hamilton for words that express so many things that have lived inside my heart for years."
Rev. Hamilton, an English literature major at DePauw, previously authored For Those We Love but See No Longer: Daily Offices for Times of Grief.
