December 10, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. — The roster of the Premier Basketball League's Vermont Frost Heaves "include(s) former DePauw shooting guard Joe Nixon," notes a story published in today's Barre Montpelier Times Argus. The team, which played in the American Basketball Association last season, opens its PBL season Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, in Barre against the Montreal Sasquatch. Nixon is a 2002 graduate of the University.
"I feel we have a great team, and we're going to have a lot of good shooters," says guard Mario Kinsey. "We have a lot of big men who work hard. I think we're going to be an all-around great team this year."

A brief biography on the Frost Heaves' Web site states, "After spending significant time on the hardwood in Romania, Finland, Slovakia, Iran and Australia, just to name a few, Joe will return state side to join the Frost Heaves for his first season in the PBL. Joe comes to Vermont most recently from Australia where he averaged 29.7 points per game and shot 48% from behind the arc with the Eastern Suns. The 6'5" shooting guard is a pure shooter who moves well without the ball in addition to being a very good rebounder and solid defender."
It adds, "Joe graduated from DePauw in 2004 as the 4th leading scorer in Tigers history with 1546 points." He finished his DePauw career as the second leading 3-point shooter in school history with 184 triples and was named a second team NCAA D-III Academic All-American in 2002.
