December 15, 2008
December 15, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. — Kimberly (Juffer) Olson, deputy secretary of the South Dakota's department of tourism and state development and director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, is one of "40 Under 40 Providing Leadership on the Plains," according to Prairie Business magazine. Olson, a 2000 graduate of DePauw University, formerly served Governor Mike Rounds as senior policy analyst.
The magazine reviewed business leaders in North Dakota, South Dakota and western Minnesota, and the "40 Under 40" honorees were selected by a panel of community leaders.
"There is little doubt of their commitment to their careers, their families and their communities," Prairie Business says of the 40 young business and community leaders. "We are confident they will provide the type of visionary leadership the Northern Plains has come to expect of its young people and that the future of our region will be secure in their competent and caring hands."
Olson’s work with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development includes focusing on achieving the goals of the state’s 2010 Initiative, which is designed to enhance South Dakota’s current economy, secure new business and improve the quality of life for the state’s citizens. She also assists with the general administration of the Department of Tourism and State Development.
A native of Mitchell, S.D., Olson received a bachelor’s degree in political science from DePauw. Before joining the South Dakota governor’s office, she was a real estate analyst for Aon Corporation in Chicago, and also worked on Capitol Hill.
