Prof. Bob Steele '69 on Intersection of Politics and Entertainment

Pulliam Distinguished Visiting Professor of Journalism at DePauw University, President Barack Obama's appearance on NBC's Tonight Show this week "signals a leap in the continued blending of politics and entertainment," writes Joanne Ostrow in the Denver Post. Appearances on shows hosted by Jay Leno, David Letterman and Oprah Winfrey have "clout" in the marketplace of public opinion, notes the piece.

"It's not journalism as we have defined it, but it's a piece of the conversation," Steele tells the newspaper.

A 1969 graduate of DePauw, Bob Steele also serves as Nelson Poynter Scholar for Journalism Values at the Poynter Institute. He was recently quoted in the Dallas Morning News, and Georgia's Augusta Chronicle. He will be among a number of national figures who will gather at DePauw April 17 for events celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Society of Professional Journalists (Sigma Delta Chi) on this campus.
