Six Tigers Earn All-SCAC Baseball Honors

May 20, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — In voting by the conference's head coaches, six DePauw players earned all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball honors.
Earning first team honors were first baseman Rob McPike, second baseman Taylor Hoffman, outfielder Justin Weiner, designated hitter Mike Stout and pitcher Brad Gerlach. Shortstop Ben Gardner was selected honorable mention.
Stout (left) and Weiner (below) are each making their second appearance on the all-conference team. Stout hit .317 with team highs of eight homers, 39 RBI and a .570 slugging percentage. He finished second on DePauw's career home run list with 18.
Weiner batted .295 with team-highs of 44 runs and a .470 on-base percentage as well as a school-record 42 stolen bases. He finished his career as the DePauw and SCAC all-time stolen base leader with 94.
McPike hit .376 in his rookie campaign with the Tigers as he led the team with 59 hits and 15 doubles. Hoffman batted .344 and was second on the team with 39 runs, 54 hits and 34 RBI.
Gerlach compiled a 7-3 record with a 2.34 earned run average. In 11 appearances, including 10 starts, he totaled three complete games with 52 strikeouts in 73 innings. Gardner was the team's hitting leader at .376, holding a narrow margin over McPike, and was second on the team with 27 stolen bases.
The Tigers finished the 2009 season with a 22-19 overall record and shared the top spot in the SCAC's East Division with a 10-5 conference record. DePauw finished fourth at the SCAC Tournament with Weiner and Gardner each earning spots on the all-tournament team.
