Tigers Top Trinity 26-18 in SCAC Football Battle

October 24, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw University's running backs collected 249 yards on the day on the way to defeating Trinity University, 26-18, at Blackstock Stadium this afternoon. It marks the first time in 11 games that DePauw has defeated its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival in football, and ups the Tigers' record to 5-1 on the season and 4-1 in the SCAC and a tie for first in the conference. Trinity falls to 5-2 and 2-2.
Two DePauw running backs hit the century mark in yards gained in the game. Jon Ellis rushed 15 times for 121 yards and a touchdown, while Derrick Karazsia gained 119 yards on 24 carries.
Senior quarterback Spud Dick connected on 19-of-28 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Bryan Mulligan (pictured at right) had 5 receptions on the day, including a TD catch, and moved ahead of Dan Ryan '03 to claim second place on the all-time pass reception list (187). Jay True '81 holds the record with 195.
The black and gold trailed 10-6 at halftime, but scored 21 unanswered points in the second half.
With today's win, DePauw extends its school-record streak to 14 straight seasons with a .500 or better record.
Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Alabama for a game against Birmingham-Southern next Saturday.
