Three Alumnae to Join Jane Pauley in Saturday Fundraiser
May 31, 2010
May 31, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — Three DePauw University alumnae -- Jennifer Pope Baker '89, Molly (Wilkinson) Chavers '98 and Sue Anne (Starnes) Gilroy '70 -- are among the cast who will participate in the Indiana Repertory Theatre's Celebrity Radio Show Saturday. "Dubbed the city's most hilarious fundraiser, IRT's annual event features a play written in the form of a 1940s classic radio show," notes the Indianapolis Star. "Instead of professional actors, the show is performed by community VIPs, business professionals and local celebrities." Chavers is executive director of IndyHub, Baker directs the Women's Fund of Central Indiana, while Gilroy serves as vice president of development and executive director of the St. Vincent Foundation.
The star of this year's show, "Ms. Smith Goes to Washington," is Indianapolis native Jane Pauley, the pioneering broadcast journalist who delivered an Ubben Lecture at DePauw on April 17, 2009. The fundraiser for IRT will be staged at the Indiana Roof Ballroom.
"In previous years, we've had casts from different industries," says Steven Stolen, managing director of Indiana Repertory Theatre. "We did a health-care emphasis where all the CEOs from the local hospitals starred. We did a Western theme that was about a railroad coming through Indiana. This year, instead of an industry-specific theme, we wanted to focus on prominent women in Indianapolis."
