Lauren Reich and Megan Soultz Share Amy Hasbrook Award

May 8, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. —  Lauren Reich and Megan Soultz have been selected as DePauw's top senior female student-athletes by DePauw's athletic department.

Reich and Soultz were awarded the Amy Hasbrook Award which is presented annually to a senior female athlete who best exemplifies effort and excellence in academics, athletics, leadership, integrity, dedication to the team, campus involvement and community service.

Reich (left), a biology major from Mesa, Ariz., has earned five all-America honors in track and field and two in cross country including a fourth-place finish at the 2009 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, a second place showing in the mile run and a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters at the 2010 Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. The latter two occurred on the James A. Hollensteiner Track in the DePauw Indoor Tennis and Track Center.

Reich was part of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference cross country championship teams each of her four years, won the meet twice and finished second two times. In track and field, she won the 800- and 1,500-meter events each of her last three years and added the 5,000 meters to her titles this year. She has already qualified for the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships with the 10th fastest 1,500-meter time in Division III history. Reich is a three-time SCAC Academic Honor Roll selection in cross country and twice in track and field.

Soultz (right), also a biology major and from Carmel, Ind., has earned all-America honors twice and was an all-region pick each of her three seasons as a pitcher. She led the Tigers to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship in her first season and to the final game of regional play each of the last two years.

As the Tigers head into their final regular season weekend, Soultz has recorded a 107-22 record with a 1.17 earned run average. She’s struck out 750 batters in 836 innings and allowed just 575 hits. Soultz ranks second in NCAA Division III history in games started, fourth in shutouts and wins, tied for fourth in complete games, fifth in appearances and tied for fifth in innings pitched. She’s a two-time Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year and led DePauw to two SCAC titles. Soultz earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors twice and is a three-time SCAC Academic Honor Roll selection.

Swimmer John Cook and football player Spud Dick were named the Phil Eskew Award winners as the top senior male student-athletes. Complete information on those awards is available here.

The awards are named for former DePauw student-athletes Amy Hasbrook '00 and Phil Eskew Jr. '63. Hasbrook was a four-year letterwinner for the women's basketball team who lost her life in a fire in 2002. Eskew, the president of DePauw's "D" Association for over 20 years, was a 1994 inductee into the DePauw Athletic Hall of Fame and was instrumental in its formation in 1986.
