Vernon Jordan '57, Carly Simon and Others Aid Community Organization

D2X_2355 copy.JPGAugust 3, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — A report on last night's Possible Dreams Auction on Martha's Vineyard notes, "In less than four hours the auction brought in over $225,000 through items such as a round of golf with lawyer Vernon Jordan Jr., an evening serenade from Carly Simon, and a dinner with notable Vineyard women Alison Shaw, Mary Steenburgen and Olga Hirshhorn." All told, the event brought in $291,000 for Martha’s Vineyard Community Services.

"The Vineyard is a special place," Wiet Bacheller, president of Community Services, tells the Martha's Vineyard Gazette. "When someone needs help, they step up to the plate."

Vernon Jordan 2001 studentsVernon E. Jordan Jr., a 1957 graduate of DePauw University, is an annual contributor to the fundraiser.  The former president of the National Urban League and a close adviser to President Bill Clinton, Jordan is senior counsel at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP and senior managing director of Lazard LLC.  He is an advisory member of DePauw's Board of Trustees and has authored Vernon Can Read!: A Memoir and Make It Plain: Standing Up and Speaking Out.
