Monica Brownewell Smith '00 Elected Partner at Barnes & Thornburg

December 28, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — Monica R. Brownewell Smith, a 2000 graduate of DePauw University, has been elected a partner in Barnes & Thornburg LLP's Indianapolis office. Her new status is effective January 1, 2011.
Smith is a member of the law firm's litigation department, where she concentrates her practice in complex commercial lawsuits, as well as construction litigation matters. She is admitted to practice in the state of Indiana and before the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.
After receiving a DePauw degree in English (writing), Smith earned her law degree summa cum laude in 2003 from Valparaiso University School of Law, where she served as executive managing editor of the Valparaiso University Law Review.
Smith is vice chair of the board of trustees for the Indiana Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and has been a board member since 2004. In May of 2008, she graduated from the Ardath Burkhart Governance and Management Series, part of the United Way Leadership United program.
