First-Ever DePauw-Allegheny Football Game Goes to Gators, 17-10
September 17, 2011
September 17, 2011, Meadville, Pa. — DePauw University took an early 10-0 lead, but host Allegheny College responded with 17 unanswered points, taking a 17-10 victory this afternoon. The Tigers fall to 1-1 on the season with the loss, while the Gators improve to 2-1.
DePauw University and Allegheny College have each had intercollegiate football programs since the late 1800s (DePauw's began in 1884; Allegheny began play in 1893), but the two institutions had never met on the gridiron before today's game. DePauw is playing as an independent this year and will join the North Coast Athletic Conference, of which Allegheny is a member, for the 2012 football season.
The Tigers did all of their scoring in the first quarter. Quarterback Ethan Schweir connected with Brady Schoen on a 59 yard touchdown pass. Eric Malm later hit a 32 yard field goal.
Schweir finished 11-of-28 on the day with 181 yards. He was intercepted three times on the day. One of the picks was returned for Allegheny's first touchdown.
The Tigers finished with only 47 yards rushing and were 4-of-14 on third down conversions and 0-for-3 on fourth down conversion attempts.
Next up for DePauw is a trip to Memphis, Tennessee, for a 1 p.m. (CDT) game versus Rhodes College.
