Three Alums Launch New Charity, True Hero Ties, on Veterans Day
November 11, 2011
November 11, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — Ryan Tinker, a 2009 graduate of DePauw University, visited Cincinnati Fox affiliate WXIX-TV this morning to discuss a new charity, True Hero Ties. Launched with fellow DePauw alumni Johnny Buchta '08 and Matt Newill '08, the organization sells ties with 50% of the proceeds sent to U.S. veterans organizations. The site began collecting orders today, Veterans Day.
The charity was the brainchild of Buchta and Newill, who "have always been really grateful for the freedoms we enjoy here in America and they wanted to do something about it," Tinker told the station. "They wanted a way to say 'thanks' and say thank you for everything our veterans have done for us for the past 200 years."
Tinker, a self-described "technical nerd", provides support for the website. All three were Management Fellows at DePauw.
