Prof. Debby Geis to Deliver Centennial Lecture at U of Michigan's Rackham Graduate School

Deborah R. Geis, associate professor of English at DePauw University, will return to her alma mater, the University of Michigan, to deliver a lecture to mark the centennial of the university's Rackham Graduate School. Dr. Geis will discuss "Six (Graduate) Degrees of Separation: Plays and Pathways after Ann Arbor" on Friday, October 26.

Geis received her Ph.D. in English from the University of Michigan after earning a B.A. in English and French from Cornell University. The former chair of DePauw's English department, she specializes in drama and contemporary literature, and has previously taught at Queens College of the City University of New York, the University of Tennessee, and Oberlin College.

Books by Professor Geis include Postmodern Theatric(k)s: Monologue in Contemporary American Drama and  Suzan-Lori Parks. She is also co-editor, with Steven F. Kruger, of Approaching the Millennium: Essays on Tony Kushner’s Angels in America, and editor of the anthology Considering Maus: Approaches to Art Spiegelman’s "Survivor’s Tale" of the Holocaust.

The announcement from U. of M. notes that Geis "is also a performance poet who has competed in the National Poetry Slam and elsewhere across the country."

Debby Geis will be introduced at the event by her mentor, Enoch Brater, Kenneth T. Rowe Collegiate Professor of Dramatic Literature & Professor of English and Theater at the University of Michigan. Learn more here.
