Chinonye Chukwu '07 & Prof. Samuel Autman to Screen New Short Film at Princeton U

A Long Walk, a short film by 2007 DePauw graduate Chinonye Chukwu (pictured at right), and an adaptation of a short story by Samuel Autman (seen below), assistant professor of English at the University, will be screened at Princeton University, where Chukwu is a 2013-14 Hodder Fellow at the Lewis Center for the Arts.  The showing will be followed by a reading by Professor Autman and a conversation on filmmaking, adaptation, and acting between Chukwu, Autman, and Colman Domingo, who stars in the film.  The event will take place next Wednesday, February 26, at the James M. Stewart Theater.

Born in Nigeria and raised in Alaska, Chukwu was an English (writing) major at DePauw. A 2009 recipient of the Princess Grace Award, her debut feature film, AlaskaLand, was screened at the Chicago International Film Festival and the New York African Festival at Lincoln Center. Her short film, The Dance Lesson, was a regional finalist for the 2010 Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Student Academy Awards and was later licensed by mindTV for regional network distribution.

Autman teaches creative writing at DePauw, where he specializes in teaching courses in the personal essay and journalism. A former newspaper journalist and the faculty adviser to The DePauw, Autman's work has appeared in the Birmingham Post-Herald, Tulsa World, Salt Lake Tribune, St. Louis Post-Dispatch and San Diego Union-Tribune. Autman's essay, "A Dash of Pepper in the Snow", was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2012 and appears in The Chalk Circle: Prizewinning Intercultural Essays.
