The Revelers Deliver "Louisiana-Bred Party Music" on Sept. 17
September 12, 2014
The Revelers, a Louisiana supergroup composed of founding members of the Red Stick Ramblers and the Pine Leaf Boys, will bring their unique sound to DePauw University next Wednesday, September 17. The band -- which plays all styles of Cajun, zydeco, Swamp Pop, and Americana equally well -- will present a free concert as part of DePauw's Performing Arts Series. The music begins at 7:30 p.m. in Thompson Recital Hall, located within the Judson and Joyce Green Center for the Performing Arts.
Members of The Revelers are: Daniel Coolik, fiddle, guitar; Glenn Fields, drum; Blake Miller, accordion, fiddle; Chas Justus, guitar; Eric Frey, bass, vocal; and Chris Miller, saxophone.
As individuals, they are each in high demand having performed and recorded with T-Bone Burnett, Natalie Merchant, Linda Ronstadt, Preston Frank, The Duhks, Walter Mouton, Mamadou Diabate, Cedric Watson, and Tim O’Brien to name a few. As a group they play with a sense of empathy and depth that can only be fostered after years of making music together.
They all appeared on the 2011 season finale of Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations, and were also chosen by David Simon, producer/creator of The Wire, to be featured musicians for the third and fourth seasons of HBO’s Treme.
“If you’ve ever been nagged by the feeling that all Cajun and zydeco music was starting to sound a bit too much like the same old thing, The Revelers will toss that notion back on your ears,” wrote Doug Loach in the UK's Songlines magazine. “This is Louisiana-bred party music sustained by the sonorous signature of its native milieu, but perked up by an injection of contemporary pop, rock and R&B.”
