September 23, 2014
"St. Ignatius High School President William J. Murphy will leave the school at the end of the school year to pursue further religious study as a Jesuit," reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer. A 1993 graduate of DePauw University, where he majored in economics, Murphy has been leading the Jesuit school since 2009.
"He will remain at the school while the board of regents selects a new president for next year," reports the newspaper. "According to a press release from the school, Murphy will prepare for his final vows in the Society of Jesus and take a new ministry."
"I want to express my deep and sincere gratitude to Fr. Bill Murphy for his leadership, vision and extraordinary efforts in leading St. Ignatius High School," says Michael Frantz, chair of the regents. "He has skillfully and lovingly guided the school's mission of faith formation and commitment to academic excellence."
Patrick O'Donnell writes, "A graduate of DePauw University, he worked as business manager for the Cathedral of the Assumption, Louisville, Kentucky, and as an auditor and financial analyst for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. After joining the Jesuits in 1997, Murphy attended Loyola University Chicago, earned an advanced degree from Weston School of Theology, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and taught mathematics for three years at St. Xavier. He was ordained to the priesthood in June 2008."
