Rob Johnson '90 & Ryan McGuffey '01 Win Chicago Emmys

Two alumni of DePauw University are the recipients of a 2013-14 Chicago/Midwest Emmy Award. Presented last weekend, the regional awards competition is open to stations in the Illinois markets of Chicago, Rockford, and Peoria-Bloomington; the Wisconsin markets of Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay-Appleton, and Wausau-Rhinelander, WI; and the Indiana market of South Bend-Elkhart.
Ryan McGuffey, coordinating producer for Comcast SportsNet Chicago and 2001 graduate of DePauw University, was honored in the category of "Outstanding Achievement for Sports Programs - Sporting Event/Game - Live/Unedited Program/Special" for his outlet's coverage of the Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup Parade. He was senior producer of the telecast.
Rob Johnson (pictured at left), weeknight evening news anchor for Chicago CBS affiliate WBBM and 1990 DePauw graduate, was honored in the "Outstanding Achievement for News Gathering - Spot News" category for his station's coverage of a highway shutdown.

A communication major at DePauw, Ryan McGuffey (seen at right) participated in football and track as an undergraduate. In January he was presented with the Jerome Holtzman Award for 5 Outs, a documentary on the Chicago Cubs' 2003 season. Learn more in this previous summary.
Rob Johnson majored in communication as an undergraduate. Before moving to Chicago in 1998, he worked at KPRC-TV in Houston, Texas as an anchor and reporter (1995-98). Previously, Johnson worked as the lead anchor at KATV in Little Rock, Arkansas; anchor and reporter at KLFY in Lafayette, Louisiana (1992-94); and at KALB in Alexandria, Louisiana (1990-92).
