"Chamber director Bill Cuppy described the award's recipient as a Logansport executive for about a decade and a 'go-getter' who 'truly believes that a healthy community is a prosperous community'," reports the Pharos-Tribune. The newspaper notes that Byrd "is the third nonprofit executive in a row to receive one of the chamber's highest awards. She's been with the hospital since 2006, but had not ventured into the world of healthcare before then. Her background, instead, is in workforce development. She'd grown up in Cass County, then studied psychology at DePauw University and came back to Logansport for a summer job after her graduation. 'And I never left,' she said."

The piece notes that Vicki (Vernon) Byrd is "active on several local boards, including those for United Way of Cass County, Better Health for East College 2Cass County, the Area Health Education Center and Reading Railroad."

Joyce Mayhill, director of the local United Way director and past winner of the Businesswoman of the Year, says of Byrd, "I look at her as a mentor with lots of knowledge and experience in community. I just have the utmost respect for her."
