Newspaper Profiles Library Director Krystal Becker '05
March 25, 2015
Krystal L. Becker graduated from DePauw University in 2005 with plans to teach English. But her path took her in a different direction, and she is now director of the public library in Linton, Indiana. "I love books and often read to my brother while we were kids. My grandmother had a large library of books and often read to me as a child."
Becker, who majored in English (literature) at DePauw, earned a degree in library science from Indiana University - Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI). She tells the Greene County Daily World that "she likes living in Linton and working in a small town much like the small German city in Nebraska where she was raised and graduated high school."
Jo Chiparo writes, "Linton is many miles from her home in Nebraska, and Becker's journey to this southern hamlet took some twists and turns along the way, so whether it was fate or serendipity that brought her here, she says it was a good move, and she loves the area and the library."
Becker previously worked in the library at the American Legion's national headquarters. She came to the Linton library in October 2014.
"I'm really impressed with the facility here and the fabulous building with so many resources offered from this library," she says. "A lot of small towns don't have a library of this size and with this large of a collection."
