Story on Actors' Union Includes Comments from Prof. Amy Hayes
March 29, 2015

An Indianapolis Business Journal article on the Actors’ Equity Association, the professional stage actors union, is headlined "Deciding whether to join union a tough call for Indianapolis actors." It notes, "Amy Hayes, co-artistic director of Wisdom Tooth and a veteran of 12 years teaching theatre at DePauw University, is also unsure whether to make the jump to union membership."
"Equity actors are not necessarily better actors than non-union actors and non-union actors aren’t necessarily less skilled or experienced," Hayes tells IBJ. "But Equity still comes with a status. My hope is that more doors would open to me. But I may get in and decide it’s a bad idea."
The article by Lou Harry is available online (a subscription may be required to access it).
Amy Gaither-Hayes is a part-time assistant of communication and theatre at DePauw. Learn more about her in this previous story.
