Prof. Charles Mays to Direct Science Research Fellows Program
June 22, 1990
June 22, 1990, Greencastle, Ind. - Charles E. Mays, professor of biological sciences, has been appointed director of DePauw University's Science Research Fellows program.
Mays, who received his bachelor and master's degrees from the University of Nebraska and his Ph.D. from Arizona State University, joined the DePauw faculty in the zoology department in 1968 and has served as department chair.
"The Science Research Fellows program gives faculty a chance to build a stimulating environment for a group of bright, academically inquisitive students," says Dr. Mays. "It is also an opportunity for all the sciences at DePauw to work together with the common goal of encouraging students with the ability and desire to go to graduate school and ultimately do scientific research and teach the next generation of scientists."
The professor has worked on a great deal of collaborative research with students, particularly in the area of the effects of passive smoking on laboratory mice.
