Douglas Driemeier '89 Awarded DePauw's Walker Cup

May 12, 1989

May 12, 1989, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw University senior Douglas Driemeier is the 1989 recipient of the Walker Cup.  Presented annually, the prize is awarded to the senior who has contributed the most to the University community during his or her four years on campus.

Driemeier, who hails from Florissant, Missouri, is a political science major and a Spanish minor. He has been named one of this year's 32 American Rhodes Scholars and will study at Oxford University in England.

An Honor Scholar and the recipient of a Distinguished Rector Scholarship, Driemeier was  honored last year as the outstanding junior student in the political science department.

He has served as a Chaplain's Council representative and on the Ambassador's Club minority recruitment committee.  He spent a semester studying in Barcelona, Spain, and was part of a Winter Term in Mission medical team in Peru.  He also sings in the University Festival Choir.

Per tradition, the winner of the Walker Cup addresses his or her classmates at DePauw's graduation.  Doug Driemeier will stand before fellow members of the Class of 1989 next Saturday, May 20, in ceremonies scheduled to take place on the lawn of historic East College.
