Thomas Cooley '91 is Artist-in-Residence at Chicago's Music of the Baroque

Thomas Cooley, lyric tenor and 1991 graduate of DePauw University, is serving as artist-in-residence for Music of the Baroque's 45th anniversary concert season. Cooley will appear with MOB three times, will also offer master classes for Chicago-area singers, work with students from Music of the Baroque's "Strong Voices" arts education program at partner Chicago public high schools, and present a spring vocal recital (program to be announced).

"Cooley last sang with Music of the Baroque as tenor soloist in the Mozart Requiem in October 2014; he has also appeared with the ensemble in Handel's Acis and Galatea and L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato," notes an announcement.

Chicago Classical Review noted, "Thomas Cooley proved a vividly characterful presence bringing great relish to his solo opportunities and pin-point clarity to his words."

MOB states, "While his repertoire spans more than four centuries, the Minnesota-born tenor is especially sought-after as a performer of Baroque music, particularly the Bach Passions and Handel oratorios. In addition to his concerts with Music of the Baroque this season, Mr. Cooley will sing the tenor arias in the St. John Passion with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, in the Mass in B Minor with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and perform Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Calgary Philharmonic and St. Louis Symphony, as well as appear with Boston Baroque, Les Violons du Roy, and Philharmonia Baroque/the Mark Morris Dance Group. Overseas he performs with the Munich Bach Choir and the Radio Orchestra of Lugano."

In the past, Cooley has performed with the Atlanta, Oregon, and Indianapolis symphonies; at the Lincoln Center Mostly Mozart Festival; the Oregon Bach Festival; and the National Symphony Orchestra, among others.
