TOMS and CEO Jim Alling '83 Honored by Save the Children

Jim Alling, chief executive officer of TOMS and 1983 graduate of DePauw University, accepted Save the Children's Visionary Award on behalf of his company. The presentation took place Tuesday at Save the Children's annual Illumination Gala in New York City.

The charity is the leading independent organization for children in need in the United States and around the world. "TOMS was recognized for its leadership in corporate philanthropy, engagement and commitment to helping improve maternal and child survival, health and education globally and in the United States," notes an article.

Jim Alling joined TOMS in April after serving as chief operating officer for T-Mobile. He was previously president of both the international and USA divisions of Starbucks Coffee.  An economics and Spanish major at DePauw, Alling has also been general manager of several divisions at Nestlé. 

Jim Alling returned to the DePauw campus on March 13, 2007 to present the Timothy and Sharon Ubben Lecture, "Growing Big, Staying Small at Starbucks."
