326A9441DePauw University's Hartman House is the recipient of a $39,068 grant from the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE).  The two-year award, which begins in May 2016, will allow the Hartman House, which houses the of the offices of Spiritual Life, Community Service, and the Compton Center for Peace and Justice, to enhance its programming.  DePauw is among 20 colleges and universities to receive a grant.

The Hartman House is now working on a multi-year plan to expand campus-wide engagement with the notion of vocational exploration through a series of programs including a faculty/staff summer institute, a year-long faculty/staff training program, and a vocational mentoring program for students. These programs will build upon and speak to one another, offering students, faculty and staff the opportunity to engage in their own vocational exploration in the context of individual exploration as well as through one-to-one mentoring experiences.East College Walk Fall2010

"We are thrilled to have the resources to expand this vocational mentoring project," says Rev. Kate Smanik, assistant dean of students for spirituality, service and social justice. "This is a unique opportunity for our students to engage in an intentional conversation with faculty and staff about how our gifts and talents influence our vocational journey."

Matt Cummings and Valerie Rudolph assisted Smanek in writing the application for the grant.

The Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE) is a nationwide network of colleges and universities formed to enrich the intellectual and theological exploration of vocation among undergraduate students. The initiative is administered by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) with generous supported from Lilly Endowment Inc. and members' dues.
