Sophomore Student Athlete Cited in Chicago Tribune Article
January 28, 2016
"These days, you're more likely to spot a three-sport letterman jacket in a vintage store than on a varsity high school athlete," begins a Chicago Tribune story. "In today's competitive society, why do multi-sport athletes appear to be a dying breed? ... With time-consuming commitments such as club sports and offseason workouts, it's difficult to play multiple sports, especially when athletes are hoping to play at a collegiate level," write Matthew Barbato and Loie Gilbert.
Later in the piece they report, "DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind., sophomore Jackson Mihevc is a rare example of a modern-day athlete who played golf, basketball and baseball for his entire high school career at Evanston Township, graduating with 10 varsity letters in 2014."
"There have been offseason demands for as long as I can remember," Mihevc tells the newspaper. "But even when I was in high school, there was not nearly the same pressure from coaches that there is now to be doing extra stuff for their sport during the offseason."
The article appears in a number of other newspapers, including the Sacramento Bee. Read the complete text here.
A member of the DePauw men's golf team, in October 2014 Mihevc was honored as North Coast Athletic Conference golfer of the week.
