SPJ's 'Best in Indiana' Competition Honors Three from DePauw

Three members of the DePauw University community -- two alumi and one student journalist -- received honors in the Society of Professional Journalists "Best of Indiana" competition. The awards were presented April 27 in Indianapolis.
In the category "Non-Deadline Story or Series (publication below 30,000)," 2002 DePauw graduate Abby Tonsing shared the third place award with her Bloomington Herald-Times colleague, Laura Lane.
Stan Jastrzebski '03, news director of WBAA in West Lafayette, took third place with Azra Ceylan in "Radio In-Depth Reporting."
Christine Beckmann '18 of The DePauw was awarded third place for the best "Student Editorial Cartoon."

Earlier in April, eight DePauw student journalists were recognized in the Society of Professional Journalists annual "Mark of Excellence Awards," which recognize the best collegiate journalism in Region 5 (Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky). Read more here.
Recognizing and promoting journalistic excellence has been a key purpose of the Society of Professional Journalists since it was founded in 1909 by students at DePauw University as Sigma Delta Chi, a journalism honor society.
