DePauw University Joins Prestigious Colleges That Change Lives Organization

DePauw University is proud to announce its acceptance into Colleges That Change Lives (CTCL), a distinguished non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting student-centered colleges and universities that prioritize the undergraduate experience. The organization’s founding was inspired by the book of the same name, written by retired New York Times education editor and 1933 DePauw graduate, Loren Pope.

"We are honored to be welcomed into the Colleges That Change Lives community," said Dr. Lori S. White, president of DePauw University. “This recognition is awarded to a university community dedicated to rigorous, personalized education that empowers students to become the leaders the world needs."

Colleges That Change Lives expanded its membership for the first time in nearly two decades, selecting DePauw University as one of only two institutions to join this esteemed group. This historic inclusion recognizes DePauw's unwavering commitment to providing a transformative liberal arts education and underscores the university's position as a leader in fostering student growth and success.

“This is an epic moment in our organization's history,” said Ann Marano, CTCL executive director. “We are excited to welcome DePauw and Oberlin to CTCL. These are two mission-aligned colleges doing remarkable work with and for students, and I know Loren Pope would be thrilled to see them join our group of distinctly different liberal arts and sciences colleges.”

DePauw's selection followed an extensive evaluation, including nominations, applications, and site visits. Colleges that Change Lives noted that DePauw distinguished itself through its:

  • Commitment to a student-centered college experience

  • Strong foundation in the liberal arts and sciences

  • Dedicated faculty focused on teaching and mentoring

  • Diverse range of transformative educational opportunities

As a new member of CTCL, DePauw joins a select group of 45 institutions known for their ability to provide life-changing undergraduate experiences. This membership will enhance DePauw's visibility among prospective students and families seeking colleges that offer exceptional, personalized education.

"Joining CTCL aligns perfectly with DePauw's mission and values," added Mary Beth Petrie, vice president for enrollment management at DePauw. “Loren Pope’s idea that the true value of college is the transformation that takes place during a student’s college experience is the difference of a DePauw education."

DePauw University, founded in 1837, has a rich history of academic excellence and alumni success and a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and community engagement. The University's three-school model, which includes the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Business and Leadership, and the Creative School (launching this fall), ensures that DePauw – with more than fifty majors and programs, combining the intellectual rigor of a top-tier liberal arts college with the opportunities for research, internships, and global experiences typically found at larger universities – offers exceptional educational opportunities to every student.

As part of CTCL, DePauw reaffirms its dedication to making high-quality education accessible through generous financial aid packages, including both merit-based scholarships and need-based grants. This commitment ensures that students from all backgrounds have the opportunity to benefit from the DePauw experience.
