Dr. Jennifer Mike joins DePauw faculty as Visiting Global Studies Scholar

DePauw University is welcoming Dr. Jennifer Mike as the Visiting Global Studies Scholar for 2024-25 in the Global Studies Fellows Program, as well as the Hampton and Esther Boswell Distinguished University Professor of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies.

“I am deeply honored to contribute more significantly to the academic excellence of DePauw University,” said Mike. “I see my time at DePauw as an opportunity for new beginnings – a chance to meet new students, share new information, establish scholarly collaborations and try out new teaching strategies.”

Mike joins DePauw from the American University of Nigeria, where she is an Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Governance, Development and Human Rights. She is currently teaching an "Introduction to Human Rights" course that examines the concept of human rights from African, Asian, and Western perspectives.

“My first few weeks here have been exciting, welcoming and fulfilling,” she reports. “The students opened up to me fairly quickly, and the high quality of class discussions and engagement have been intellectually stimulating. I look forward to more invigorating class sessions with my students.”

Next semester she plans to teach a course on "Gender, Law, and Development" that is inspired by her current scholarly research project.
