High-achieving Marchant thanks donors for unique DePauw experience

Erika Marchant headshotErika Marchant is a Chinese studies major and environmental geosciences minor. And an honor scholar and environmental fellow. And a member of the cross country and track and field teams. And a member of the Sustainability Leadership Program. And a Writing Center tutor and writing associate for first-year seminar courses.

This member of the Class of 2022, who studied Chinese language and culture in Beijing in summer 2019 and ecology and Southeast Asian culture in Northern Thailand in spring semester 2021, says “my extraordinarily interdisciplinary education” was made possible by the generosity of donors.

She is a recipient of the Richard S. and Janet A. Neville Endowed Fund for Signature Internships, the Pamela (Lorman) and Ben Peternell Endowed Environmental Scholarship, the Steven Trulaske Endowed International Scholarship and the Simmons Fund for DePauw Scholarship.

Her study-abroad experiences “closely engaged the skills and knowledge I gained in the classroom,” she said. Learning to balance her numerous commitments “has certainly been a learning process,” but “I can’t imagine my time in college without each of these commitments.

“My growth as a person and student during my time at DePauw has been immeasurable, and I can’t imagine how this experience would be possible without the generosity and dedication of donors that have helped to fund my education,” Marchant says. “Through my abroad studies and campus work positions, to my independent research and athletic participation, I have been supported not only by professors, coaches, mentors and leaders on campus, but the DePauw community that extends off campus. Thank you so much!”
