Housing Closing Information
Fall Term
Students residing in the same room assignment for the upcoming terms (Winter and/or Spring) can keep their personal belongings in their assigned room for the duration of winter break. Students will need to be departed by the date outlined on the housing calendar for the academic year. Students should complete the following prior their departure:
- Unplug everything in your room (minus mini-fridges/aquariums)
- Remove all trash and recycling and dispose of properly. Dispose of any food items that will spoil over break
- Shut & lock windows (Prevents cold weather from freezing pipes and causing water damage)
- Turn off all lights and fans (overhead, desk, desk fan, box, fan, etc.)
- Set your heat to the lowest setting (without turning it off)
- Shut & lock your door. Take student ID card and room key(s).
If s student is not residing in university-owned housing for the upcoming terms (Winter and/or Spring), the student will need to remove all their personal belongings from their assigned room and common areas (where applicable) upon their departure. The student will also need to return their room key(s) to Housing and Residence Life. Keys cannot be mailed in.
Winter Term
If a student is residing in university-owned housing for Winter Term but is not residing in university-owned housing for the Spring Term, the student will need to remove all their personal belongings from their assigned room and common areas (where applicable) upon their departure. The student will also need to return their room key(s) to Housing and Residence Life. Keys cannot be mailed in.
Spring Term
All students residing in university-owned housing are required to attend their respective floor or building closing information meeting led by their Resident Assistant(s) in early May. Students will be provided a closing checklist and key packet to use upon their departure. If a student is unable to attend the meeting, they will need to contact their Resident Assistant to obtain the necessary information from the meeting.
automatic extensions
The following groups of students are provided automatic extensions for moving out of their spring term room assignment:
- Graduating seniors
- Students who are members of the University Band, Jazz Ensemble and/or Gospel Choir who are participating in Commencement weekend activities
- Resident Assistants employed by Housing and Residence Life
- Students who have been approved for May Term or summer housing.
For graduating seniors and students who are members of the University Band, Jazz Ensemble and/or Gospel Choir who are participating in Commencement weekend activities, the designated move out date is the day following commencement at 11:00 AM EST.
Resident Assistants and students approved for May Term or summer housing will receive more information regarding their transition dates at a later time.
Housing and Residence Life will work with the Director of Athletes and Recreational Sports regarding extensions for student athletes required to remain on campus for NCAA competition.
RESIDENCE HALLS and rector village
All residence halls close at 6:00 PM EST on the last day of scheduled final examinations. This includes the following residence halls: Bloomington Street Hall, Bishop Roberts Hall, Humbert Hall, Jordan Hall, Longden Hall, Lucy Rowland Hall, Mason Hall, and Senior Hall.
All Rector Village units close at 6:00 PM EST on the last day of scheduled final examinations. This includes the following buildings: Chabraja Hall, Holmberg Hall, Leis Hall, Montgomery Hall, Reese Hall. Strasma Hall, and Warne Hall.
Students residing in these areas can apply for extension until 9:00 AM the following day. The extension request form will be able to students in mid-April. Extension requests are reviewed and only granted to students with unique travel circumstances. Students who receive an approved extension that do not meet one of the criteria listed above will be charged a $25.00 extension fee. This charge will be added to your student account. Requests for approval of extensions received after the above deadline that are approved will be charged a late extension fee in the amount of $50.00.
university-owned apartments and houses (UOAH)
All university-owned apartments and houses (UOAH) will close on the day following commencement at 11:00 AM EST. No extensions are available past this date and time, so it is important for students to make their travel plans accordingly.
May Term
Students only approved for on-campus housing for May Term will need to depart their summer housing assignment by 12:00 PM EST on June 19, 2025. Students who are approved to reside on-campus for the full duration of the summer will remain in their summer housing assignment until early August 2025.
