Becoming a Bonner
Eligibility to apply to the Bonner Scholar Program is determined based on demonstrated financial need and commitment to service. Part of the application process will be an interview with current Bonner scholars as well as the Bonner Scholar Program Coordinator. To see if you are eligible to apply for the Bonner Scholar Program, contact your DePauw admissions counselor.
All Bonner scholars are expected to:
- Complete 140 hours of service (8-10 hours per week) per semester.
- Participate in planned training and enrichment events for Bonner scholars, including but not limited to: class meetings, all-Bonner meetings, and journal writing.
- Enroll in a Bonner Winter Term Course during their first year, at no additional cost.
- Attend a service exchange in their sophomore year.
- Complete and deliver a senior presentation at the end of the senior year, summarizing their service experiences.
- Behave ethically, respectfully, and mindfully on campus at DePauw and in the local Greencastle and Putnam County community while engaging in service.
- Complete 280 hours of service during the summer, for 2 summers.
