DePauw Student Emergency Assistance Program
DePauw students facing a financial crisis may be eligible for assistance through the DePauw Emergency Assistance Program (DEAP).
Students must first demonstrate that they have exhausted all other resources (credit card, payment plans, additional student aid, assistance from family/friends, other personal resources). The value of the assistance is based on a student's specific needs, but typically does not exceed $500. DEAP is not intended to provide ongoing relief for recurring expenses and is subject to availability of funds and extent of need.
Under DEAP, students could be given funds in two ways: grants or advance charging capabilities through their student account. Each student's emergency and financial situation will be taken into consideration when deciding if and which type of assistance can be provided. Emergency grants do not need to be repaid; however, they may be subject to federal taxes. Advanced charging capabilities through a student’s account do need to be repaid as the student pays their DePauw bill.
The Office of Student Affairs and the CARE Team is ready to support your overall DePauw experience, please consider completing a Care Referral or visit our Wellness Resource Page for additional resources.
If you have a general question about emergency funding, email care@depauw.edu with your inquiry.

Application Process
All currently enrolled DePauw students who need emergency financial assistance may apply and provide supporting documentation using the online application. Please take time to review the eligibility criteria and the FAQs found below before applying.
The Emergency Fund Committee, composed of members of the CARE Team and the Office of Financial Aid, reviews the submitted applications within one business day and determines if funding is appropriate and the funding type and amount.
Funds distributed are generally within the $100- $500 range. The committee will review applications requesting in excess of $500 for unique and unusual circumstances of emergency financial need. Applicants may be asked to meet with a staff member to discuss their application. Emergency grants do not need to be repaid; however, they may be subject to federal taxes. Advanced charging capabilities through a student’s account do need to be repaid as the student pays their DePauw bill.
