FAQ's
If I have a current, verified FAFSA on file with the DePauw Office of Financial Aid, will I receive the money automatically?
No, our small emergency grants and advances are considered a last resort financial resource for emergencies only. The Office of Financial Aid is part of the evaluation process to determine the student’s eligibility once the request has been screened by The Director of the CARE Team to assure the reason for the grant matches the intent of the DePauw Emergency Assistance Program and its funding sources.
Additionally, all students are expected to exhaust all other financial aid options with the Office of Financial Aid before being considered for this emergency assistance program.
I am an International Student, can I apply for this assistance?
Yes. International and Domestic Students may apply to be considered for this fund.
While International Students are not eligible for federal loans, their application is reviewed to determine if the stated need matches the intended use of the funds.
Can I apply each semester for this assistance?
A student, if approved, may only receive emergency assistance once per academic year.
Do I have to pay the money back?
Under DEAP, students could be given funds in two ways: grants or advance charging capabilities through their student account. Each student's emergency and financial situation will be taken into consideration when deciding if and which type of assistance can be provided. Emergency grants do not need to be repaid; however, they may be subject to federal taxes. Advanced charging capabilities through a student’s account do need to be repaid as the student
pays their DePauw bill.
How much money can I request?
You can request any amount you feel that you need assistance with. However, the average amount given is $100-$500.
I received an email that said I was approved for DEAP, how should I expect to receive the money?
In most cases, the funds will be disbursed to the direct deposit account on file by the Payment Services Office. Students without a direct deposit account on file will be issued a check that will be mailed to the student address on file. To avoid a delay in receiving your funds, sign up for direct deposit. The form will be sent to you in the approval email. Please note each bank is different and it can take a few days for a direct deposit to post to your account.
I am on SAP Warning or Probation, can I receive DEAP?
No. Students must be in good academic standing to receive DEAP.
May I apply for DEAP to offset the cost of my books?
You should first talk with the Office of Financial Aid. There is an option to purchase your books at Eli’s Bookstore using your student account.
What if I have specific questions not addressed in the FAQs?
Students may email care@depauw.edu, from their DePauw email, with their specific questions.
