Off-Campus Study

Congratulations! Whether it’s study abroad, or study USA, internship, direct enrolment to a university or with a program, studying off-campus is a valuable opportunity and one of the most rewarding experiences you can have and one of the best decisions you can make during your college career. Why study off-campus? Taking the opportunity to study off-campus is one of the best decisions you can make at college. You’ll have the benefit of supportive staff, financial resources, and other support structures that you wouldn’t get if you were doing it on your own. You might think that off-campus study is not an option either for academic, financial, social or other reasons, but as anyone who’s ever done it will tell you, that’s not the case. With 130 programs, across 6 continents and a range of program providers offering thousands of class options counting towards your major, minor or elective credit and towards other program requirements, you can go off-campus and stay on-track. Students studying off-campus at DePauw remain matriculated and so, for most programs, your DePauw financial aid goes with you. In addition, most programs offer their own generous financial aid. There are also scholarships available in other departments at DePauw as well as external scholarships like the Gilman Award. The skills and experience acquired off-campus not only benefit you personally, but also make you more attractive to employers and grad schools. You’ll develop skills in independent thinking, adaptability and resilience and broaden your cultural horizons. On completion, you’ll be amazed how much you’ve achieved and more than likely will have developed a taste for adventure and skills that will stay with you and stand you in good stead both now and in the future. The process of applying for off-campus study is one that requires planning and foresight, and the support of faculty and staff as you plan and prepare and the DePauw application process is intended to help you do that. Sincerely, The Off-Campus Study team, Hubbard Center for Student Engagement, DePauw University
